Dean's Column (July 2018)

Dear Extension retirees,

We have news to share about Extension’s leadership team.

Two of our associate deans, Dorothy Freeman in the Center for Youth Development and Karen Shirer in the Center for Family Development, have announced their plans to retire this year. Dorothy’s last day will be July 31, and Karen will be with Extension until the end of December.

I have appointed Assistant Dean Jennifer Skuza as interim associate dean in Youth Development, effective Aug. 1. We’ll conduct a search over the next few weeks and I hope to name a new permanent associate dean early this fall. In Family Development, we’re conducting a national search and expect to have a new associate dean in place by January 2019.

Both Dorothy and Karen have been strong leaders in their centers for more than a decade, and we will miss both of them, but wish them the best as they enter this new chapter in their lives. Please join me in congratulating both of them, and in thanking them for their many contributions to University of Minnesota Extension.

Bev Durgan
Dean
