Media Moments (March 2018)

Extension Master Gardeners are multi-talented, media savvy

Did you know that some of Extension’s Master Gardener volunteers have another creative talent beyond the garden fence? They are writers, too, and even radio hosts, reaching thousands of Minnesotans.

Bev Johnson, a Master Gardener in West Otter Tail County, writes regularly for Fergus Falls Journal, as in her column, To the house plant killers: It doesn’t have to be like this. Jennifer Knutson, a Master Gardener in Crow Wing County, puts out an Ask a Master Gardener feature in the Brainerd Dispatch and the Pine and Lakes Echo Journal, such as Caring for an amaryllis bulb.

On Saturdays, from March to September, Kandiyohi County Master Gardeners host a one-hour radio “Ask a Master Gardener” segment on KWLM 1340. The volunteers discuss gardening hot topics along with issues they face in their own yards.
