Awards & Accomplishments (Nov. 2019)

Congratulations to Extension educator Shirley Nordrum, who was selected by the McKnight Foundation and the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits to receive a Virginia McKnight Binger Unsung Hero Award. Shirley is an educator in Cass Lake and works closely with the Leech Lake, Red Lake and White Earth reservations. In addition to her education work with Extension in northern Minnesota, she serves on the board of Extension's Central Regional Sustainable Development Partnership.

Congratulations to the following National Extension Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS) Minnesota affiliate members who were recognized recently at the NEAFCS Annual Session on Oct. 3 in Hershey, Penn.:
  • Mary Caskey: Continued Excellence, regional and national levels
  • Suzanne Driessen and Kathy Brandt: 1st place regional and national, Food Safety Award for “Cottage Food: Keep it safe! Keep it legal!” program
  • Lori Hendrickson and Becky Hagen Jokela: 3rd place regional Communications Educational Curriculum Package Award for RentWise renter education program
  • Becky Hagen Jokela and Lori Hendrickson: 1st place regional and 2nd place national Extension Housing Outreach Award for RentWise Education program
  • Sara Croymans, Anita Hering and 31 national partners: 1st place regional and national Mary W. Wells Memorial Diversity Award for the Military Families Learning Network 2018 Virtual Conference “Cultural Competency: Awareness, Action and Advocacy”

Jennifer A. Skuza, Associate Dean, Center for Youth Development and Trish Olson, Associate Dean, Center for Family Development announce that their cross-center collaboration work with Somali-American youth and families has just been awarded a five-year federally funded grant from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture’s Children, Youth, and Families at Risk (CYFAR) program.
